Midwife Nicola Savory, has been awarded a prestigious RCBC Fellowship

Midwife Nicola Savory, has been awarded a prestigious RCBC three year Fellowship to undertake doctoral studies based in the School of Healthcare Sciences. Nicola is currently working with researchers in the School of Biosciences on 'Grown in Wales' a study exploring gene expression in placental tissue and its relation to maternal mood. Nicola plans to further develop the area of work relating to perinatal mental health though a study exploring the incidence of perinatal mental disorders in Wales, women's experiences of access to care and midwives training needs.
Nicola's supervisory team will be comprised of Dr Ben Hannigan, Reader in Mental Health, and Dr Julia Sanders, Reader in Midwifery, School of Healthcare Sciences; Professor Rosalind John, Head of Biomedical Division, and Dr Anna Janssen, MRC funded Research Associate, School of Biosciences . The Fellowship represents an exciting opportunity for closer collaborative working between Schools in the College of Biomendical & Life Sciences with combined expertise in genetics, mental health, midwifery and service delivery.
