School of Social Sciences’ unique new course accredited by the British Psychological Society

A new addition to the School's suite of Undergraduate programmes - the BSc in Human and Social Sciences – has received accreditation by the British Psychological Society (BPS).

BPS accreditation will be hugely valuable to students as it provides a solid starting point for a career in psychology. Graduates awarded 2:2 or higher at the end of their studies, and who have passed their dissertation, will be eligible to apply for the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the BPS.

Completing a BPS accredited degree is the first step towards a career as a professional psychologist so this will be a welcome boost to student employability. Eligibility for BPS membership enables graduates to undertake further study or training at postgraduate level towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist. Postgraduate study and supervised training, normally lasting a further three years, are required in order to obtain employment as a professional psychologist.

If students hope to continue to study psychology after their degree then we would recommend that they choose an accredited course. The British Psychological Society is a professional body, which represents psychology and psychologists in the UK. The School of Social Sciences has offered a BPS accredited pathway within BA Education for almost 40 years and within BSc Social Science for ten years.
