Lights out for Earth Hour 2013
20 March 2013
The University is encouraging staff and students to switch off their lights for an hour at 8.30pm on Saturday 23 March to support WWF's Earth Hour in Wales.
Earth Hour is an annual event dedicated to focusing the world's attention on the need to protect our planet.
At 8.30pm, hundreds of millions of people across the world will turn off their lights for one hour in a symbolic show of support. Worldwide, 152 countries and 6,950 cities took part in 2012, with 7.6 million people, 3,400 schools and 1,200 businesses in the UK alone. Also in 2012, Welsh landmarks including the Senedd, National Library of Wales and Caernarfon Castle all went dark, and communities and businesses across Wales celebrated the event with fire shows, twmpath dances and candlelit dinners.
Staff and students are asked to turn off all non-essential lighting in their workspaces or halls of residence during Earth Hour 2013. The Earth Hour website has plenty of ideas for fun activities to do on the night and you can also tweet your support using the hashtag #earthhour
