Satisfied students
12 August 2014
Almost nine out of ten Cardiff University students 'definitely agree' or 'mostly agree' that they are 'overall satisfied' with their student experience.
The National Students' Survey (NSS), published today, shows 89 per cent of undergraduates were 'overall satisfied' with their student experience.
Cardiff University remains above the UK-wide sector average of 86 per cent and above the Welsh average of 85 per cent.
The University chalked up its best ever tally for 'teaching on my course', scoring 89 per cent, two percentage points higher than the sector average, and three higher than the Wales score. Cardiff's score for satisfaction with 'learning resources' went up two points in 2014, scoring 90 per cent – two points higher than last year's score and ahead of both the UK sector and Wales averages.
Satisfaction with the Students' Union was up three points to 85% - another record high.
Published annually, the NSS asks undergraduates to rate their University experience in areas including teaching, academic support and personal development. Around 80 per cent of final year undergraduates - some 3,500 students - took part in this year's survey.
Cardiff University's Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience & Academic Standards, Professor Patricia Price said: "I am really pleased to see that we have maintained such a high level of satisfaction amongst our students - indeed, we have increased our scores in most areas.
"This reflects the strong partnership we have with our students and the commitment, dedication and enthusiasm of staff. Cardiff University is embarking on a whole range of new initiatives to build on this success and I would like to thank our students for all their contributions to our future plans."
Elliot Howells, Students' Union President, said: "I am hugely proud that Cardiff Students' Union has been named the 5th best Students' Union in the UK. The staff and officers worked so hard last year to improve everything we do and I can't thank them enough. I'm really looking forward to continue building on this success over the next year."
Cardiff University aims to achieve a 90 per cent overall for satisfaction in every School and 80% satisfaction in the assessment and feedback category by 2017.
