Joining forces for Wales
26 April 2013
Vaughan Gething AM and Cardiff Business School's Dean, Professor Martin Kitchener, have joined forces to share their experiences and knowledge for the benefit of the University, for the local community and for Wales.
The new agreement will see Vaughan Gething spending time at Cardiff Business School, to glean an in-depth insight into Higher Education in Wales and to gain access to emerging research which can help Wales' development.
Professor Kitchener accompanied Vaughan on his constituency business recently, visiting Baden Powell Primary School in Tremorfa and hearing more about the School from Headmaster Jason Clark.
Professor Kitchener said of the experience: "I was thoroughly impressed with my visit to Baden Powell and very much enjoyed speaking to Jason, the staff and pupils at the School.
"The visit gave me an insight both into an aspect of Cardiff that I don't often get to engage with professionally – primary school education – and into the important role that Assembly Members have in understanding the challenges that their constituents face and lobbying for improvements.
"As a direct result of our visit, we will be inviting the pupils of Baden Powell to the University for an activity day very shortly. I hope that this is just one of the many possible positive outcomes that this agreement can have for our local community."
Vaughan Gething AM said: "I am very pleased Martin saw some of the reality of school life in Tremorfa. I welcome the commitment to link the University to communities within the city. I hope some of the children we met will go on to become Cardiff University students.
"I am really looking forward to spending some time in the Business School in a reciprocal working visit."
