Dr Cátia Rebelo joins the Sustainable Places team

Dr. Cátia Rebelo joined the Sustainable Places Research Institute as an Early Career Researcher (ECR) in April 2016.
Cátia holds a degree in Tourism and a masters degree in Sustainable Tourism Management from School of Tourism and Maritime Technologies from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria, Portugal and has experience in developing sustainable practices in the tourism context. Her research interests focus on sustainable development, nature-based tourism, rural tourism, cultural tourism and heritage, tourism branding, stakeholder’s involvement and place-based development.
Cátia is member of the Tourism Research Unit (GITUR) from Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. She has worked in national and international projects (http://europehome-project.eu/) in sociology, tourism & sustainability and higher education areas.
Her work at the Institute is focused on Place Ambassadors, which forms part of the SUSPLACE project, Sustainable Place Shaping, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Innovative Training Network funded by the European Commission. The project explores the role of private sector businesses in supporting sustainable place-shaping through their enrolment in formal ‘place ambassador’ schemes. Focused in the Brecon Beacons National Park, the project will assess the role the role of Place ambassadors in developing sustainable-place shaping projects and initiatives.
