Cardiff University alumni Natalie Powell reaches quarter final in the Rio Olympics
15 August 2016
Last week Judo star Natalie Powell reached the quarter final in the 78kg category of the Women’s Olympic Judo competition. She got off to a good start beating Sarah Myriam Mazouz of Gabon, however the London 2012 bronze medallist Audrey Tcheumeo, proved too strong for Powell as Tcheumeo advanced to the semi-final. Powell got another chance to gain a place in the semi-final with a match against Germany’s Luise Malzahn, however unfortunately it wasn’t to be as Powell lost to Malzahn in the quarter final repechage.
Reaching the quarter finals in only her first Olympic Games is a great achievement and no doubt there are more great things to come.
Natalie was a member of the Cardiff University Sport High Performance Programme and graduated from Cardiff University in 2015 with an undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences.
