Leading experts make science accountable through knowledge sharing events

Leading experts from the Cardiff China Medical Research Collaborative (CCMRC), Cardiff University, InuCyte and Swansea University have presented at recent events to enhance understanding of the latest cancer research and innovative technologies.

Dr Andrew Sanders, Research Fellow, CCMRC, presented ‘Understanding the ways by which cancers spread’ at Cancer Research Wales’ (CRW) ‘Science Cafe;’ an event series which marks CRW’s 50th anniversary of funding world-class research in Wales. Dr Sanders explained how CCMRC’s CRW funded project is exploring new mechanisms to target cancer spread or metastasis; a key contributor to cancer mortality and morbidity.

CCMRC is passionate about knowledge exchange and hosts monthly seminars to encourage discussion amongst researchers. Most recently, attendees including, scientists, academics and students have welcomed and listened to guest speakers from academia and industry:

• Dr You Zhou, Lecturer, Cardiff University presented,  'A systems biology approach to the diagnosis and pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD);’
• Nigel Jones, IncuCyte, demonstrated the latest technology for metastasis research; equipment which allows the imaging, recording and analysis of cell behaviour;
• Professor Gareth Jenkins, Lecturer, Swansea University, presented 'Biomarkers in oesophageal cancer.'
