A £300,000 state-of-the-art centre for clinical education and medical equipment testing named in honour of Professor William Mapleson, who has worked in academic anaesthesia for over 60 years, is launching a new website.

The Bill Mapleson Centre (BMC), based in Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley, offers a cutting edge clinical education space and simulation training aimed at health professionals and industry.

The website - www.bmc.wales – will help health professionals learn about the BMC’s work in medical device development and to access information about the centre’s education facilities and training opportunities.

Professor Judith Hall, Founder & CEO of the BMC, said: “Launching the website is an important milestone in helping the BMC train doctors, nurses and dentists. It will reinforce the centre’s reputation for excellence in undergraduate and post-graduate teaching and continuous professional development.”

“Through the BMC, we offer not only training but also expertise in the design, development and evaluation of all medical devices used in anaesthesia, respiratory medicine and intensive care.”

Established by Cardiff University, the BMC is run by senior academics and clinical consultants from the University’s Department of Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Pain Medicine.

The BMC collaborates closely with MediWales, NHS and industry, promotes innovation in healthcare, and puts profits back into Cardiff University and charities.
