Two students secure Santander scholarships for work experience in the Wladfa, Patagonia
Elin Arfon and Mannon Thomas, Year Two students at the School, have begun a month of work experience in Chubut, Patagonia, sponsored by Banco Santander.
Earlier this spring, the School offered two scholarships worth £3,000 each, to allow undergraduate students to travel to the Wladfa (the Welsh settlement in Patagonia) and undertake varied work experience with Schools, language classes and local communities.
Elin and Mannon flew to South America on 10 June 2016.
The two students will support the work of Cynllun yr Iaith Gymraeg, which is a partnership between Welsh Government, the British Council, Cardiff University, The Wales-Argentina Society and Menter Iaith Patagonia.
Dr Jonathan Morris, co-ordinator of the Scholarships in the School of Welsh, said: “This is a great opportunity to visit the Welsh settlement in Patagonia and experience its unique heritage and environment. Elin and Mannon will be able to promote the Welsh language while teaching Welsh to some of the people of Chubut and also contribute to the wider community. I know that Elin and Mannon will be perfect ambassadors for the School, the University and Wales.”
