Iris Prize Festival

The seventh annual Iris Prize Festival is taking place in venues across Cardiff, from the 9-13 October. This year the University is supporting the opening night of the international festival which showcases gay and lesbian short films from across the globe.

Over the course of the four-day festival, thirty short films will compete for the much-coveted Iris Prize. The winner will be invited to make a new short film, receiving funding, support and guidance as part of the Prize. In addition to screenings of all of the competing films, the festival programme includes new feature films, panel sessions and events.

Karen Cooke, Chair of Enfys, the University's LGBT+ Network expressed the Network's delight at the University's support for the Festival:

"The Enfys Committee are delighted that Cardiff University is sponsoring the opening night of The Iris Prize. Iris has become a significant event in the LGBT calendar and has an international appeal. It is particularly significant that we are sponsoring an event in October as Friday 11 October is National Coming Out Day.  We hope this visible support sends the message that Cardiff University continues to work towards creating an atmosphere where all of our staff and students are proud to be themselves."

Cardiff University is ranked in Stonewall's Top 100 Employers in recognition of its commitment to equality for lesbian, gay and bisexual employees. The University has also recognised by Stonewall for its commitment to supporting lesbian, gay and bisexual students, scoring full marks in the Gay by Degree checklist.
