12 February 2015
Cardiff School of Engineering's Professor Peter Wells has been shortlisted as a finalist for this year’s St David Award in the innovation and technology category.
The nomination recognises the sustained impact that Professor Peter Wells has had on the use of ultrasound as a tool for medical diagnostics and treatment.
The St David Awards are a national award scheme that recognises and celebrates the exceptional achievements of people from all walks of life in Wales. There are nine categories for the annual awards which aim to reflect and promote Wales as a modern and vibrant country with a growing reputation for innovation, enterprise, and community spirit.
Since the 1960s, Prof Wells’ work in developing ultrasound as a surgical and diagnostic tool has revolutionised clinical practice, and has contributed to the health and wellbeing of the community. He is currently involved in developing a new type of CT scanning which is likely to be used for ultrasonic breast screening and is also trying to develop a much faster form of ultrasound scanning.
The winners will be announced at the St David Award ceremony which will take place in the Senedd on 12th March 2015.
