Research group leader inducted into Learned Society of Wales
21 April 2016
Professor Manu Haddad, leader of the School of Engineering’s Advanced High Voltage Energy Systems Centre, has been inducted into the Learned Society of Wales.
The academic oversees a research theme that includes the National Grid Centre, a research and consultancy hub for the UK’s energy network, and the Morgan-Botti Lightning Laboratory, a controlled facility for the simulation of lightning strikes on structures such as passenger aircraft.
Professor Haddad, who has held an academic role at Cardiff University since 1995, is an active member of both British Standard Institution and International Electrotechnical committees.
He joins a field of approximately 400 academics originating from or working in Wales, including a number of other representatives from the Cardiff School of Engineering.
The Society assesses candidates for entry on the basis of their contributions to fundamental and applied research, profession, area of public service and contribution to business and industry in order to broadly represent “the very best of which Wales is currently capable”.
The organisation was founded in 2010, but has stated its ambition to become the “recognised representative of the world of Welsh learning internationally” by 2018.
