Institutional Review success
21 July 2014
Cardiff University has been successfully reviewed by the Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), the independent body entrusted with monitoring, and advising on, standards and quality in UK higher education.
A team of QAA reviewers visited the University earlier this year and judged that academic standards; the quality and enhancement of our student learning opportunities; and the quality of information about our learning opportunities all meet UK expectations. Students are at the heart of Higher Education Review as full members of QAA's peer review teams.
Areas of good practice noted by the review team include:
- The appropriate, widespread and responsive staff development opportunities in learning and teaching, including those extended to postgraduate students.
- The University's work in supporting and embedding the positive contributions of students in developing a culture of enhancement for the quality of learning opportunities.
- The comprehensive implementation of management information to support quality and standards at all levels, including aspects of enhancement.
- The practice of monitoring regularly at university executive level the progress of key university-wide strategies for the enhancement of learning opportunities.
Professor Patricia Price, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience & Academic Standards said: "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their contribution to the Institutional Review process, which has required a huge amount of additional work at a time of great change. The outcome is a reflection of our commitment to quality and standards, and it is rewarding to see the QAA Team note our strong and successful partnership with students.
"Whilst the report provides us with confidence in the quality of our provision, the process of continuous enhancement of the student experience remains a key priority for the University. The Education and Students Way Forward provides us with a framework for the work ahead. Many thanks to everyone, once again."
The successful review means that Cardiff University can display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that the University has reached a high level of the management of quality and standards of UK higher education provision.
Following the review, the University and Students' Union Elected Officers will put into action the recommendations included in the report and further develop its areas of good practice. Cardiff University will next be reviewed in 2020 under the new Higher Education Review, Wales method which replaces Institutional Review, Wales.
