The Academy of Medical Sciences, which represents a diverse spectrum of medical science, has established a network of Regional Champions. It has been announced that the Champion for Wales is MRC Professor Ole Petersen CBE FRS, Director of Cardiff School of Biosciences.
The champions will be responsible for increasing connectivity between Fellows of the Academy and the biomedical community in their respective regions. The Academy has appointed 10 Regional Champions from the Fellowship to ensure Fellows from across the UK are represented equally.
Professor Petersen has also been elected Vice-President (Science, Technology and Medicine) of the Learned Society of Wales and took up this position at the end of the Society's Annual General Meeting, which was held in The Sir Martin Evans Building on 14th May 2014. Professor Petersen said: "I feel greatly honoured by my election to these two posts and see opportunities for establishing new links and effective collaborations between these two important scientific societies. One of my aims is to enhance the level of recognition of scientists and scientific achievements in Wales throughout the UK as well as internationally."
