Holocaust survivor testimony event marks liberation of Bergen-Belsen

In a unique event, a Holocaust survivor will share her testimony in We Remember Them: An Evening with Mala in the Welsh capital in commemoration of the liberation of Bergen-Belsen concentration camp by British Troops on 15 April 1945. 

During the evening's programme, the moving testimony of Mala Tribach will be interwoven with music and poetry presented by students from Cardiff University and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. The music will include Stravinsky's Elegy for solo Viola and Mahler's Adagietto from symphony no. 5. 

The event on 5th April promises to be a very special evening, enabling a wider audience to hear the testimony of a survivor directly, giving a unique insight into the Holocaust and its personal and global effects.

Regional Ambassador in Wales for the Holocaust Edcuational Trust Hannah Swindells, a history student at the University, is the organiser of this one-off event. Hannah explains why such events are important:

"I was extremely privileged to hear the testimony of a Holocaust survivor as part of the Holocaust Educational Trust's Lessons From Auschwitz Project. It was an experience that completely changed the way I engaged with this 'historical event'; it became real and living. Unfortunately, survivors will not be with us much longer. I want everyone to have the opportunity to hear the first hand testimony of a survivor. By hearing from a survivor, learning about the Holocaust and remembering individuals, we can prevent history from dehumanising victims and survivors, and make sure that the lessons of the Holocaust are not lost."
