Celebrating student mentors
10 May 2016
Earth and Environmental Sciences students have been recognised at a recent celebration of student mentors across the University.
Nicole Riley was awarded Student Mentor of the Year for the School; Elspeth Bousfield and Zoe Widlake were awarded Highly Commended Certificates.
The event to celebrate the University’s latest cohort of student mentors and mentor consultants was opened on 26th April by Simon Wright, Academic Registrar, with Professor Bob Lark, Dean of Education and Students for the College of Physical Sciences and Engineering, officiating. Students from across ten academic schools were honoured for their hard work and commitment to the mentor scheme throughout the academic year.
Guest speeches from Darren Smith, Mentor Consultant 2015-16 for the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and Cardiff University’s Mentor of the Year 2014-15, and University alumnus Matt Blackburn-Smith, a former mentor for the Business School 2013-14 and a Mentor Consultant 2014-15, now on a Graduate Training Scheme with Arriva Trains, completed the evening’s celebrations.
Cardiff University’s Mentor Scheme recruits continuing undergraduate students to mentor small groups of first year students to transition more comfortably into university life. It is a rewarding opportunity for students to volunteer or give something back, make friends, and can enhance your CV.
