Our Academic Future - consultation update
18 March 2025

Dear student,
This week marks the mid-point of our consultation on proposals to shape our Academic Future. Over the last few weeks, I have met lots of you at Town Halls, meetings and events to hear your feedback and answer questions.
You can find all the consultation meetings and events listed on the student intranet along with answers to your most common questions.
Next steps
I know many of you have been worried about losing staff in your schools. As we move into the second half of the consultation period, work has already been undertaken to understand the implications of the current proposals for our staff. We will be able to start letting staff know where they are no longer at risk of redundancy and move into a period of individual consultations with colleagues who remain at risk of redundancy.
The consultation will close at 10:00 on 6 May. The university will then finalise the proposals, for a decision by University Council in June.
I know this may feel like an unsettling time. Remember that no final decisions have been made yet and all our current students and those joining in September will all be able to complete their degree with us.
You can still share your feedback and contribute to the consultation. Here’s everything you need:
- the proposals and the data that informed them
- online forms to provide your feedback on existing proposals, suggest alternatives, or submit your comments to newid-change@cardiff.ac.uk
- answers to your most common questions
- consultation events to shape our Academic Future
Your mental health and wellbeing remain our priority. If you need support, reach out through Student Connect, use the TalkCampus app or get independent advice from Student Advice Centre at the Students’ Union.
Best wishes,
Professor Nicola Innes
