New partnership with Advanced Timber Hub set to drive sustainable innovation
11 February 2025

Cardiff Business School has joined the University of Queensland-led Advanced Timber Hub (ATH), a groundbreaking international partnership focused on advancing sustainable timber supply chains, NetZero strategies, and circular economies.
Professors Vasco Sanchez Rodrigues and Calvin Jones bring their expertise in NetZero operations, supply chain resilience, and sustainable timber economics to collaborate with industry leaders such as Arup, AKD, Aurecon, and Hyne Timber, alongside top research institutions, including the University of Canterbury, Royal Institute of Technology, University of British Columbia, and 12 Australian universities.
This partnership aligns closely with Cardiff Business School’s Public Value ethos, unlocking new opportunities for knowledge exchange between the UK and international forestry and timber sectors. The collaboration is set to drive impactful research, influence industry practices, and attract government and industry funding to accelerate future innovations.
With time, Cardiff Business School aims to expand its contributions to the ATH, further strengthening global efforts toward a more sustainable timber economy.
Professor Vasco Sanchez Rodrigues, Cardiff Business School’s lead in the ATH, said:
"This partnership holds great potential for the development of state-of-the-art applied research, knowledge co-creation, and generation of external funding. It lays a strong foundation for establishing a wider partnership between Cardiff University and the University of Queensland.”
Dr Cristyn Meath, ATH’s Theme Leader - Planning Change and Node Leader - Socio-Economic Opportunity and Interventions for Change, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Cardiff Business School to the ATH, and we look forward to having impactful and fruitful collaboration through innovation co-created by colleagues from Cardiff University, the University of Queensland and other academic and industry partners.”
Professor Calvin Jones, Cardiff Business School’s co-lead in the ATH said:
“Nothing could be closer to our Public Value ethos than sustainable, resilient, and circular infrastructure. This partnership means we can help make that a reality by marrying the advanced tech to viable and virtuous business models.”
