Developing impactful leaders with a new Engineering Management MSc

4 February 2025

Cardiff University’s School of Engineering and Cardiff Business School have partnered to offer a new Engineering Management (MSc), designed to develop impactful leaders capable of driving sustainable change.

As the demand for engineers who are not only technically proficient but also equipped with managerial and leadership skills grows, this programme is set to bridge the gap.

The MSc aims to equip students with the ability to tackle real-world challenges and global issues while incorporating sustainable development goals into their professional practices.

This MSc is crafted for students who wish to enhance their technical expertise while honing their management and leadership skills. It is ideal for individuals with an engineering background who are eager to step into roles that require both innovation and effective decision-making in complex, real-world situations.
Dr Xiao Jason GUO Programme Lead, School of Engineering

The MSc in Engineering Management combines a technical education with the application of key management techniques.

Students will not only learn to manage engineering projects and teams but also address pressing global challenges, such as climate change, resource management, and sustainable technology development.

Students in this MSc programme will develop the skills and expertise needed to address the grand challenges faced in engineering today. This could be from managing projects that provide resilience to communities that face the impact of climate change through to process improvements that embrace the latest technological innovations.
Professor Andrew Potter Programme Lead, Cardiff Business School

Students enrolled in the programme will have access to advanced research facilities, engage in hands-on learning experiences, and work alongside experts from both engineering and business fields.

Graduates can pursue careers in engineering research, as well as industrial, commercial and government organisations and roles in both public and private institutions.

To apply for Engineering Management (MSc), prospective students should have a degree in a relevant engineering subject or an equivalent international degree.
