An innovative new master’s programme in AI and digital media production has been announced by Cardiff University’s School of Journalism, Media and Culture for September 2025.

This one-year programme will explore the use of Generative AI and new digital media and will equip students with the skills they need to succeed as a content and communications professional.

The course has been designed in collaboration with the industry in response to the latest storytelling trends and aims to deliver confident and proficient graduates who, by the end of their studies, will be ready to begin working in the workplace.

During the course, students will work in a realistic professional environment and will be given the opportunity to create videos, podcasts, and animations. They’ll also gain hands-on experience as they get to work on a number of creative briefs from industry partners throughout the year, resulting in them developing a portfolio of work which will benefit them as they begin their careers.

Dr Matt Walsh, Head of the School of Journalism, Media and Culture said: “The way stories are told is forever changing and that’s why we’re excited to be launching our master’s programme in AI and Digital Media Production. This is an innovative and exciting new course where students will be taught how the latest technology can help them tell their stories to different audiences.

“Not only that, but students will be taught by academic staff and practitioners who are experts in both AI and digital media production and who will help them develop the skills they’ll need to enter the world of work.”

Applications for this course are now live. For more information, visit our course page.
