Sixth formers presenting to their class

A unique Welsh-medium programme run by Cardiff University and Cardiff Metropolitan University is helping sixth form students kick-start their journey to becoming future business leaders.

The six-week programme brought together 16 and 17-year-olds to explore leadership and management skills. Participants came from three Welsh-medium schools in Cardiff, including Ysgol Plasmawr, Ysgol Bro Edern, and Ysgol Glantaf.

Delivered in Welsh by Cardiff Business School and Cardiff Metropolitan University, the sessions combined presentations, practical tasks, and expert insights from lecturers, teachers, and business professionals.

Designed for ambitious students with an eye on higher education and/or business careers, the programme tackled topics such as the circular economy, sustainability, diversity and inclusion, digital marketing, economics, and event management.

The 25 participants gave glowing feedback, praising activities like stock trading simulations, team challenges, and mock interviews for roles in their mock businesses.

Professor Eleri Rosier from Cardiff Business School, who led the course, said:

“Using the Welsh language in the workplace opens so many doors, and it’s vital to mentor talented young people to show them they can build successful careers here in Wales. These students have shown incredible promise as future leaders and I am very impressed by their enthusiasm and potential.”

This programme is part of Cardiff Business School’s commitment to widening access to business education and increasing the number of Welsh-medium students in its courses.
