Dear student,
Croeso nôl (welcome back)! I hope you’ve had a great summer break and are looking forward to the new academic year.
As your Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education and Student Experience, it is my pleasure to welcome you to what promises to be an exciting year. As always, I’ll keep in touch with you throughout with updates on university activities, highlighting opportunities for you to get involved in.
At Cardiff, we care about you and want to make sure you have the best university experience possible. If you start to struggle, reach out for our mental health and wellbeing support services or academic support as soon as possible. Speak to your personal tutor, look for study skills sessions, find a peer support event or refer yourself for one-to-one counselling and wellbeing appointments via Student Connect.
The team at the Student Connect desk in our Centre for Student Life can help if you need advice with where to start and their online portal and chatbot are available 24/7.
We remain fully committed to tackling sexual misconduct, harassment, abuse and violence in our community. Before starting your studies, please take some time to complete our new consent training module on Learning Central. Together, we can help each other stay safe.
Over the summer, we launched our new strategy: Our future, together. The feedback you shared during Y Sgwrs Fawr – The Big Conversation, as well as regular surveys including the National Student Survey, has helped shape this strategy, which focusses on improving the student experience we offer you. Throughout the year I’ll update you on how the strategy is being actioned, what it means for you, and how it will change your university now and in the future.
I’ll be in touch with you again soon. In the meantime, be sure to get involved in the many events and activities we have planned including careers fairs and student-led coffee lounges. It’s a fantastic way to meet new people, explore your interests, and make the most of your university experience.
Keep an eye on your inbox for Student News emails and other important updates, and if you have any questions check the student intranet or contact Student Connect.
Wishing you all the best for the new academic year.
Best wishes,
Claire
