On 24 October 2024, Cardiff Business School hosted the Cardiff Workshop on the Economics of Migration, gathering UK-based and international researchers to share insights on migration economics.

Professor Kul Luintel, Head of the Economics Section at Cardiff Business School, welcomed delegates, setting the tone for a day of thought-provoking presentations and discussions.

Highlights included keynote speeches by Professor Joan Llull (Institute of Economic Analysis and Barcelona School of Economics) and Professor Michele Battisti (University of Glasgow’s Adam Smith Business School).

The workshop programme featured presentations by both UK-based and international speakers and welcomed over 25 participants. Among them were students from Westbourne International School in Penarth, who joined with their teacher for a firsthand glimpse into academic research.

The event concluded with an informal dinner, encouraging further discussion and networking within the academic community.

“The workshop facilitated a dynamic exchange of ideas and perspectives among researchers working in the economics of migration. It provided a unique opportunity to foster an economic network within this group.”
Dr Ezgi Kaya Senior Lecturer in Economics

“The interactive discussions during the presentations, along with the level of engagement and enthusiasm from participants, highlighted the significance of fostering connections in this area.”

Feedback praised the collaborative atmosphere and quality of research presented, affirming the workshop as a vital platform for advancing migration economics and encouraging future collaborations.

This event was part of a research fellowship funded by ADR UK (Administrative Data Research UK), an Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) investment, part of UK Research and Innovation (Grant number: ES/Y001001/1).
