The team secured a comfortable win over St Andrews in TV’s toughest quiz team tournament.

The Cardiff University team beat St Andrews by 200 points to 145 in a thrilling first round of the knockout BBC Two quiz team tournament.

Captained by Year 3 BA (Hons) History and Economics student Conor Boyling, the rest of the team was made up of Year 2 BA History student Kyle Gilbert, MSc Data and Analytics student Rosalie Tarsala, and Year 3 MPhys Physics student Henrik Holm.

It was the experience of a lifetime to compete on University Challenge, and I'm so proud to represent Cardiff and the SHARE department. I hope we made it exciting!

Team Cardiff have already undergone intensive quiz training to qualify as one of the 28 starting teams and are making preparations for the second round.

The best part of the experience was getting to meet the other teams. Everyone was very friendly and so knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects. I couldn’t have done it without the rest of the Cardiff team. It was a great pleasure to share my passion for quizzing and trivia with the team.

University Challenge began in 1962. Making it through the second round into the quarter finals would match the university’s highest ever position in the tournament (2014).

Watch the first round match, broadcast on October 21 2024, on BBC iPlayer.
