Bringing the circular economy to life for adults with learning disabilities
18 October 2024
A group of adults with learning disabilities from Innovate Trust recently took part in an interactive workshop at RemakerSpace, where they explored 3D design, printing, and repair.
The workshop was part of Innovate Trust’s One Planet project, which supports adults with learning disabilities to take action on climate change, resulting in positive long-term behavioural change. People with learning disabilities are often excluded from climate action initiatives.
The hands-on session, led by Dr Franck Lacan, RemakerSpace Technical Manager, provided participants with valuable skills and knowledge in 3D technology and repair.
Mared Hughes from Innovate Trust expressed her enthusiasm, saying: “The activity was accessible and tailored enabling our participants to engage in the important topic of the circular economy in a way which was meaningful to them. A wonderful day.”
Participants also shared their positive experiences. Morgan, one of the attendees, said: “I enjoyed everything about today. I would love the chance to attend more courses.” Another participant, Bobby, added: “What a fantastic experience. It was all so new and exciting, and I hope to use some of what I learnt to develop some more skills to help me direct my own film.”
Rebecca Travers, RemakerSpace Centre Manager, said: “It was a joy to host such an engaged and eager group. I look forward to welcoming them back for more sessions focused on the circular economy.”
RemakerSpace, supported by funding from the Welsh Government and Cardiff Business School, is a non-profit initiative focused on community engagement and education. It aims to promote and support the extension of product life cycles and the circular economy.
