Staff from the Cardiff Confucius Institute partnered with Techniquest in Cardiff Bay to deliver a variety of traditional Chinese craft activities in celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in Chinese culture and is on par with that of Chinese New Year. The festival commemorates and celebrates the end of the autumn harvest and is also known as the Moon Festival. It is believed that the moon is at its brightest and fullest in the middle of autumn.

On Saturday 14th September, over 450 Techniquest visitors were invited to participate in craft activities and to discover the history behind the origins of the festival. Watch  our short film of the celebrations.

The activities on offer included; making rabbit lanterns, writing your name in Chinese, papercutting window decorations, making masks and painting with traditional Chinese brushes.

The centre enjoyed a party atmosphere throughout the day and there was also a very special visit from a friendly panda who was a big hit with the children!
