Jake Robbins and Charlotte Loder, who have recently completed their Transport and Planning (MSc) studies at the School of Geography and Planning, have been recognised for their outstanding academic performance.

Jake and Charlotte were confirmed as having achieved the highest marks for the taught component of the master’s programme, with Programme Director Dr Dimitris Potoglou commending both students for their hard work and commitment to the exciting field of transport and planning.

Jake was gifted a copy of Emeritus Professor Huw Williams’ award-winning book Forecasting Urban Travel Past, Present and Future. Co-authored with Professor David Boyce from the University of Illinois at Chicago, the book won the 2016 The William Alonso Memorial Prize for Innovative Work in Regional Science.

Charlotte was presented with a copy of Dr Potoglou’s first edited book, Handbook of Travel Behaviour. In the book, Dr Potoglou and Dr Justin Spinney bring together an international range of esteemed academics who explore research analysis methods, environmental considerations, and social factors.

Professor Gillian Bristow, Head of the School of Geography and Planning, said: “Congratulations to our top-performing students on the Transport and Planning (MSc) programme. Their dedication and hard work have set them apart in a highly competitive field, and we are delighted to recognise their achievements.

“Their awards symbolise not only their academic success but also their commitment to advancing the future of transport and urban planning. We look forward to seeing the impact they will make in shaping more sustainable and efficient communities."

Emeritus Professor Huw Williams said: "Congratulations to the whole class of 2023-24 for all your efforts on the course. I am particularly pleased that my book with David Boyce 'Forecasting Urban Travel' will be presented to Jake Robbins! Well done!"

Dr Potoglou said: “I would like to congratulate Jake and Charlotte for their achievements and hard work. I wish them every success in their future endeavours.

“I’d also like to thank Professor Williams for kindly donating a copy of his definitive and highly regarded book - a key reference for all travel researchers and practitioners - to be given as a prize once again. His continued support of the School, our work, and our exceptional students is very much appreciated.”
