Director bids farewell after 10 years in charge of Cardiff Confucius Institute
Dr Catherine Chabert, Director of the Cardiff Confucius Institute for the past ten years is stepping down from the role.
Cardiff Confucius Institute is a partnership between Xiamen University in China and Cardiff University which aims to provide high quality language teaching and cultural events to strengthen links that benefit both communities and more broadly, both peoples.
The Institute was launched in 2008 and Dr Chabert has led the team for the past ten years, making it one of the most successful Confucius Institutes within the UK.
In a personal letter to Dr Chabert, the Vice President of Xiamen University, Professor Shi Dalin, wrote:
“Over the past decade, your unwavering commitment to foster cultural and educational exchanges has been truly inspiring. Under your leadership, the Confucius Institute at Cardiff University has not only grown into an influential Chinese language education institution in Wales but also an important platform for people to exchange academic collaboration between China and the UK.”
Looking back over her tenure in charge of the Institute, Dr Chabert said:
“Reflecting on a decade as Director of the Cardiff Confucius Institute, I am immensely proud of our achievements in promoting Chinese language and culture in Wales, fostering mutual understanding, and strengthening the vibrant partnership between Xiamen University and my institution.”
Management of the Institute will now fall under the remit of the Dean For China at Cardiff University, Professor Wenguo Jiang together with the Academic Director from Xiamen University, Professor Guoxiang Xia.
