Delivering a bespoke executive education programme for University’s Strategic Partner

The CPD Unit collaborated with Cardiff Business School's MBA Programme Director, Dr Saloomeh Tabari to develop and deliver a unique Executive Summer School for Xiamen University MBA students. Working together, we created a learning environment inspiring professionals from different backgrounds to learn, network and study together, and encouraged participants to link theory to their practice when back in their professional roles in China.
We designed the week-long, entirely bespoke programme as an intensive, immersive experience for MBA students working in industry alongside their studies. The brief: a combination of lectures, case studies, guest speakers and networking opportunities.
Five delegates from a range of backgrounds, including the worlds of finance, Aerospace engineering and IT took part in the programme, held in the Executive Education Suite in our multi-million-pound Postgraduate Teaching Centre. Studying alongside them were four students from the Cardiff MBA programme.
Programme lead, Dr Saloomeh Tabari, said,
We designed the Cardiff Executive Summer School to connect MBA graduates, industry managers, and those who are keen to come back to university to refresh their knowledge. We are thrilled to have developed a fantastic relationship and a very successful Executive Summer School between Xiamen University and the Cardiff University MBA, which builds on the strategic partnership between the institutions.
By incorporating diverse, global examples within lectures and presentations, and encouraging the sharing of ideas between visiting delegates and Cardiff-based MBA students, we created a truly one-of-a-kind programme that will deliver real-world value when delegates return home.
Our programme included global topic areas such as service design, lean practice, AI and marketing for a sustainable future, enabling participants to compare what they had learned against their own experiences and in the contexts of their home countries and regions.
Following the success of this programme, we are now exploring the possibility of welcoming further cohorts of MBA students from across the world, as well as continuing to nurture our relationship with Xiamen University.

Strategic partnership
Our strategic partnership with Xiamen University supports joint academic programmes, a PhD scholarship scheme and student and staff exchanges. Cardiff was the first city in the UK to twin with a city in China when it partnered with Xiamen over forty years ago.
The partnership with Xiamen University, managed by the Global Partnerships team, extends our long-standing relationship and existing collaborations on fields of mutual interest.
