The School of Music at Tafwyl
17 July 2024
Every summer Menter Caerdydd brings us Tafwyl - a feast of Welsh music of every genre, for free, right in the city centre.
Jake Collins, one of the School's current students, performed on the festival’s main stage as well as on the Gwerinle stage with his band Dadleoli.
There was also a series of talks and events for people learning Welsh - Dr Joseph O’Connell took part in ‘Panel y Dysgwyr’ (Welsh Learners Panel) over the weekend. He also presented research from Prosiect Pūtahitanga with Dr Elen Ifan from the School of Welsh.
Prosiect Pūtahitanga is a joint project between Cardiff University and The University of Waikato, with support from FOCUS Wales and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, looking at popular music, language and identity in Welsh and Māori contexts.
Lewys Siencyn (School of Music alumnus) also took part in the event, talking about his work with Beacons Cymru as well as his experience as a musician who works through the medium of Welsh.
Llongyfarchiadau to the Tafwyl team on another brilliant festival. We're looking forward to next year already!
