Exploring the interaction between human behaviour and operations research
23 April 2024
Professor Konstantinos Katsikopoulos, an internationally leading researcher in the field of behavioural science, recently delivered a seminar at Cardiff Business School on the complex interaction between human behaviour and operations research.
Konstantinos Katsikopoulos is Professor of Behavioural Science at the Department of Decision Analytics from the University of Southampton. He also chairs the behavioural group at the Operational Research Society and is Associate Editor of the Journal of Mathematical Psychology and of Judgment and Decision Making.
Invited to speak by Professor Aris Sytentos at Cardiff Business School, Professor Katsikopoulos delivered the seminar on 'Cognitive Operations: Models that Open the Black Box and Predict our Decisions.'
Colleagues from across Cardiff Business School attended the session and were thrilled to hear Konstantinos’ research in this area first-hand. The seminar was co-hosted by Dr Dnyaneshwar Mogale and Dr Tommaso Reggiani.
He added: “With a focus on predicting human decisions through rigorous testing and comparison of optimisation and heuristic models across diverse contexts, the session offered valuable insights into the complexities of decision-making. It was an informative, engaging, and thought-provoking event that highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary approaches in unravelling the mysteries of human behaviour within logistics and operations management.”
He added: “His presentation vividly showcased the boundless possibilities when recent behavioural advancements are extended to traditional logistic and management themes. We envision this event as just the beginning of a future series that will cultivate scientific collaboration among scholars with expertise rooted in different yet highly complementary fields."
