Quality Management Update

Following a successful ISO Continuing Assessment (Surveillance) visit in March by an external auditor, we are pleased to have maintained our ISO 9001 certification.

Our ISO 9001 certification confirms that our Quality Management System continues to demonstrate its ability to provide services that consistently meet customer and regulatory requirements. We remain the only UK Multi-Core Facility to have this certification, supporting both our Cardiff University users and external customers.

We continue to encourage Cardiff University researchers and businesses to contact us about our services and Quality Management advice.

IPA and Bioinformatics

At CBS we continue to offer bioinformatics advice and training on everything from project design to data storage and analysis. Please join the Data Clinic on Zoom, every Thursday 11am-12pm for support from our Core Bioinformatician. Contact us for the invitation link.

Thanks to all who attended the recent IPA training from Qiagen, we hope it was useful to you.

Did you know CBS also offers IPA licences?

These are charged at a competitive rate, giving you a big saving on obtaining a licence direct from Qiagen, and have no limit on annual usage.

Please contact us for more information or to get a licence set up.

Want to know more about Flow Cytometry in your region?

Come and join the GW4 Cytomics Event on Thursday 25th April in University of Exeter.

This event marks the launch of the Exeter Centre for Cytomics (EXCC) and the first meeting of the GW4 Cytometry Group, bringing together a vibrant community of experts, researchers, and industry leaders.

Keynote Lecture: "The Impact of Cytomics on Science Discovery" by Professor J Paul Robinson, a renowned leader in Cytometry and Biomedical Engineering

This free event is targeted at researchers in the GW4 region universities and in companies based in the GW4 area including Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter.

Click on the link below to read the full programme, see the plans for the day... and to book your place!

And talking about Flow Cytometry, do you know about the GW4 Flow Cytometry brochure?

There is a GW4 brochure detailing all the Flow Cytometry Shared Resources available to access across GW4.

These Shared Resources are instruments located in GW4 universities (Bath, Bristol, Cardiff and Exeter), with supporting technical expertise, that can be accessed by researchers across GW4 and beyond, including commercial partners. Click here to download the brochure and learn all about what is available to you.... happy reading!

Your feedback is important to us

We have updated our survey to gather your feedback after you have accessed our services. Please look out for the CBS Customer Feedback Survey link on our emails. You can also access this survey via the QR code on posters near our laboratories, our website or the link below.

We value all feedback to help us improve our services going forward and so are very grateful for you spending five minutes to complete this survey, thank you.

Networking through MediWales

CBS is enjoying being members of MediWales, the Life Science Network for Wales, attending a range of events to promote CBS and Cardiff University whilst networking to learn about support, funding options, technologies and trends in our region and beyond.

We left the recent BioWales in London event inspired by all the great progress being made in Wales; with its set up and size, there is much potential for Wales to be an exemplar for the adoption and implementation of innovation!

Training on Specialised technologies

Thank you for attending the RNAseq, Flow Cytometry Theory, FlowJo and Qiagen IPA software courses this year.

We are in the process of arranging further training sessions covering technologies such as Biacore and Nanostring. Please continue to check our website and follow us on LinkedIn and Twitter for details of upcoming events, many of these being open to both internal and external researchers.

There is also a range of other training events being organised by colleagues across Cardiff University, please see below (with contact information):

  • Bionano workshop on Thursday 11th April (email here for details)
  • Oxford Nanopore Technologies and 10x Genomics on Wednesday 1st May (email here for details)
  • Parse Biosciences on Tuesday 11th June (email here for details)
