Grangetown Career and Role Model Week returns for 2024
14 February 2024
Run by Cardiff University’s Community Gateway, in partnership with the Grange Pavilion, Grangetown Career and Role Model Week is designed to raise aspirations in the local community.
By connecting residents with academic and professional advisors, the event provides an opportunity to speak to local role models gaining insight into a range of subjects that can be studied, as well as getting tailored advice on both educational and career paths.
Event attendees can get one-to-one support with job or university applications, and budding entrepreneurs can get business advice. The event offers something for everyone, from young people in local primary schools to adults seeking work opportunities or a change of career direction.
This will be the ninth year that the increasingly popular event has run, and this year, thanks to a grant from the South Wales Civic Engagement Partnership Pump Priming Fund, promises to be bigger and better than ever. In addition to Cardiff University’s presence at the event, Cardiff and Vale College, the Open University, Cardiff Metropolitan University, the University of South Wales, and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama will all participate throughout the week. Visitors to the event will get the opportunity to sign up to a bespoke visit to the institution of their choice on the final day of the week, with transport provided from Grange Pavilion and back again.
The pump prime funding will be used to establish a South Wales Career and Role Model Week advisory network, with representatives from local HE and FE institutions as well as local school teachers, parents, and pupils. The network will work together to plan Career and Role Model week activities, advise on follow-up activities, and collaborate on existing initiatives. The first meeting was held on 31st January at Grange Pavilion, with 4 school teachers attending with 11 pupil representatives and their parents.
