International partnership for neuroscience and mental health research

Cardiff University’s Neuroscience and Mental Health Innovation Institute has partnered with Maastricht University’s Mental Health and Neuroscience Institute to unite research expertise in neuroscience and mental health research.
The partnership between the universities in Wales and the Netherlands aims to bring together researchers from across disciplines and facilitate collaboration, with the goal to further scientific understanding of the underlying causes of neurological and mental health conditions.
Professor Adrian Harwood, Co-Director of the Neuroscience and Mental Health Innovation Institute, said: “This key partnership between the Neuroscience and Mental Health Innovation Institute and Maastricht University’s Mental Health and Neuroscience Institute spans all aspects of neuroscience and mental health research, expanding research capacity, delivering research training, and coordinating strategy for collaborative funding."
Cardiff University’s Neuroscience and Mental Health Innovation Institute is a flagship Institute for the University, translating innovations in neurological and mental health research into effective diagnostic and treatment solutions. By partnering with Maastricht University's Mental Health and Neuroscience Institute, they aim to combine complementary research activities and expertise for greater impact.
Professor David Linden, Scientific Director of Maastricht University’s Mental Health and Neuroscience Institute, said: “Maastricht already has a longstanding collaboration with Cardiff, for example in neurogenetics and neuroimaging. One key area of interest will be the translation of genetic discoveries, many of which were led by Cardiff, into translational research and, ultimately, new treatments.”
The international partnerships will focus on seeking opportunities to cooperate in research in all aspects of neuroscience and mental health, graduate and technical training, and facilitating knowledge exchange.
