Two of six Masters’ Scholarships awarded to Cardiff applicants
This year the Royal Historical Society has awarded one in three of its Masters’ Scholarships to students undertaking MA History at Cardiff University.
Taking up MA History study at Cardiff, Nawajesh Khan (History, BA, 2023) and Charlotte Willis (Ancient and Medieval History, BA, 2023) are both among the second cohort to receive the prestigious scholarships.
The RHS Masters’ Scholarship programme provides financial support to students from groups currently underrepresented in academic history.
By supporting students without the financial means to study for a Masters’ the programme focuses on a key early stage in the academic training of future researchers.
Both scholarship recipients have expressed their thanks for the opportunities this brings.
Recipient Nawajesh Khan says:
"The Royal Historical Society Scholarship has given me the courage and confidence to chase my dreams, specialising in 19th century revolutions and 20th century political history. Key areas of my interest in research: Social history, The Digital Turn and History of Emotions. I also had the opportunity secure a research placement at the University’s Centre for the Study of Islam in the UK as a Research Assistant. I am absolutely grateful for this Scholarship and to become a RHS postgraduate member."
Alumna Charlotte Willis adds:
'Receiving the scholarship means I can undertake opportunities that will enhance my research, allow me to network with experts from across the world and will undoubtedly have an extremely beneficial impact on my MPhil. This is a wonderful award that opens so many doors for aspiring scholars, and one that I am very grateful to have received.'
Established in 2022, the Royal Historical Society scheme seeks to actively address underrepresentation and encourage Black and Asian students to consider academic research in History.
RHS 2023/24 Masters’ Scholarships are kindly supported by the Thriplow Charitable Trust and the Past & Present Society, enabling a total of 6 £5,000 scholarships to benefit historians in the making this year.
