Business school staff recognised at Celebrating Excellence Awards

Dr Hakan Karaosman and Angharad Kearse have been recognised for their outstanding contributions at work by Cardiff University’s Celebrating Excellence Awards 2023.
The awards evening took place on 16 November 2023 at The Great Hall, Students' Union, hosted by Professor Damian Walford Davies, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Claire Sanders, Chief Operating Officer.
These annual awards are an opportunity for all staff to celebrate achievements of excellence. 144 individuals and groups were nominated across 16 categories.

Dr Hakan Karaosman - Winner - Excellence in Environmental Sustainability
Hakan is an internationally experienced and award-winning researcher focusing on fashion supply chain sustainability. He was nominated for being a leading voice in environmental sustainability and social justice.
His research has been recognised by the United Nations and the European Commission as one of the pioneering projects with impact. He has been featured by media platforms including Forbes, The Guardian, Vogue Business, and The Financial Times, just to name a few. Hakan has delivered keynote speeches at various influential platforms, including TED, Milano Fashion Week, and the Global Fashion Summit.
Hakan said about his win: “Thank you, Cardiff University for awarding me the Cardiff University Celebrating Excellence Awards for Excellence in Environmental Sustainability. Congratulations to all the nominees. Our contributions are complementary and we are all in this constant dialogue with one another to change things by using science and research as an instrument.”

Angharad Kearse - Finalist - Rising Star, Professional Services
Angharad was nominated for the outstanding contribution she has made to the Executive Education team at Cardiff Business School. As an External Engagement Officer, Angharad works to develop and enhance relationships between the business school and the external community.
Amongst the activities in which she has become involved is the Cardiff Children’s University project. The project is designed to give local primary school children an opportunity to learn more about higher education and to help them with their aspirations for the future. The project generated significant positive feedback for the university and business school.
Damian Walford Davies, Deputy Vice-Chancellor, said: "Across 16 categories, the wealth of achievements on show was a source of joy. All nominees and all winners can be proud of the fact that they were nominated by their peers, who eloquently and persuasively endorsed accomplishments both quietly sustaining and dramatically transformative."
Claire Sanders, Chief Operating Officer, said: “I look forward to co-hosting these awards every year. It’s a privilege to be able to celebrate so many outstanding colleagues and the work they do across our university. Huge congratulations to all the nominees and winners for representing our staff community so well.”
