Introducing and Supporting Women in HPC

As part of the evolution and development of the Cardiff research computing community, ARCCA is actively seeking to promote and improve diversity and inclusion by drawing upon the expertise of Women in HPC (WHPC).

Diversity has long been recognised as a driving force behind innovation and growth within any organisation. With the realm of High-Performance Computing rapidly advancing, it becomes imperative to embrace diverse perspectives and expertise in order to tackle the complex challenges that lie ahead. ARCCA's aspiration to amplify diversity and inclusion and to seek to address the lack of female representation in HPC has led them to collaborate with WHPC, a community dedicated to promoting the participation of women in the HPC domain.

Last month ARCCA welcomed Christin Merritt (WHPC Executive Board Member) to introduce WHPC and its aims to the Cardiff research community. At that session it was agreed to set up a local group aimed at fostering, promoting and further developing ideas around establishing a WHPC community at Cardiff. A follow-up session will take place in September aimed at facilitating further open discussion, and to delve deeper into potential initiatives. WHPC was established with the aim of encouraging women to participate in the HPC community by providing fellowship, education, and support to women and the organisations that employ them. Through collaboration and networking, WHPC strives to bring together women in HPC and technical computing while encouraging women to engage in outreach activities and improve the visibility of inspirational role models.
