Call for Participants: Paradiplomacy Summer School
23 March 2023
Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre will welcome up to 12 PhD students to a Paradiplomacy Summer School in July.
“Paradiplomacy” is a term which captures the practice of diplomatic-style relations and activities by sub-state nations and regions. Despite increasing recognition of its significance in global politics, paradiplomacy remains a vague and contested concept, but one which is better equipped to examine the political dimensions of sub-state mobilisation across the world that cannot be captured by narrowly defined policy approaches.
The Summer School will provide a highly interactive learning environment in which PhD students will work alongside leading academics to analyse and evaluate the competing dynamics of paradiplomatic activity. With reference to real world examples in Europe and around the world, students will develop a sophisticated understanding of both the concept and practice of contemporary paradiplomacy.
Hosted in Cardiff by the Wales Governance Centre and the Coppieters Foundation on July 11th and 12th, the Summer School will consist of a keynote lecture, academic seminars and research workshops for students to receive feedback on their work. It will be free of charge and include accommodation at Cardiff University and a Summer School dinner. The Summer School will be chaired by Dr Rachel Minto from Cardiff University and Dr Carolyn Rowe from Aston University, and the keynote lecture will be delivered by Professor Michael Keating.
Potential participants are encouraged to read the full brochure, which includes details on how to apply, and which is available at this link.
