This is My Truth: Bevan book to be showcased at party conferences
28 February 2023
A new collection of Aneurin Bevan’s writings for Tribune will be discussed at the Welsh Labour and Plaid Cymru party conferences next month.
Revered in Wales, and celebrated across the UK as one of our greatest reformers, Aneurin Bevan was also a prolific writer on a vast range of political topics for the socialist magazine from its founding in 1937 until his death in 1960.
Nye Davies’ new book, published by University of Wales Press, collects these writings which chart the development of Aneurin Bevan’s thinking on class conflict, capitalism, democracy, and democratic socialism. The volume offers a new opportunity to reflect on the legacy of the NHS founder and the relevance of his political ideas to the labour movement in Wales and the UK today.
In the first of several planned events to promote the book, Davies will speak at the Plaid Cymru conference at Llanelli on March 4th, alongside the acclaimed author Daniel G Williams, and at the Welsh Labour conference at Llandudno on March 11th.
With Bevan’s legacy celebrated, by now, across a range of political strands in Wales, the book will be of particular interest to conference-goers as they reflect on the future of their parties, and on the struggles facing working people across Wales and the UK.
