Two members of the School of Geography and Planning have been recognised at the Cardiff University Celebrating Excellence Awards.

The awards are an opportunity for all staff to say 'thank you' to those colleagues who go the extra mile.

Dr Andrea Collins is part of the Interdisciplinary Research Team from Cardiff Business School and School of Geography and Planning, that won the Excellence in Environmental Sustainability award.

This interdisciplinary team’s research assessment of the environmental impact of major sporting and cultural events has transformed organisers’ ability to understand and manage those impacts. This has allowed organisers to deliver events with less waste, make large CO2 emissions savings, and communicate sustainability messages to new audiences.

Matluba Khan was a finalist in the Rising Star: Early Career Academic category in recognition of the breadth of her contribution and progress across teaching, research and engagement.

The winners were announced at an awards evening on 10 November 2022 at The Great Hall, Students' Union, hosted by Professor Damian Walford Davies, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Claire Sanders, Chief Operating Officer.

Anyone can nominate an individual colleague, or group of colleagues, for the contributions they make to the university.

The awards support and reinforce the university’s strategy The Way Forward. They reward individual, team and collaborative achievements through a range of award categories.
