Meet the new Head of the School
20 September 2022
In August 2022, Dr Jennifer Pike was appointed the new Head of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
Jenny Pike has been part of our community at Cardiff University for 25 years. She joined as a Lecturer in 1997 after moving from the University of Southampton where she was awarded her PhD.
Jenny is a Reader of ocean and climate history. Her research interests include the use of fossil marine diatoms to reconstruct past sea ice, ocean and climate interactions around Antarctica and the Southern Ocean over the past 20,000 years. She also teaches undergraduate fieldwork classes and courses on Earth history, field and professional skills.
Speaking about her plans for the future, Jenny said: “It is a great honour to be given this opportunity to lead the School. The School already plays an internationally leading role in fundamental research, building a diverse and global community, and educating the next generation in the Earth and environmental sciences.”
“We are amid a green revolution with a great deal of uncertainty and change ahead, but also great opportunities. I plan to work closely with our students, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders to build on these strengths and continue to move towards more sustainable futures.”
On behalf of all the members of the School, Jenny would like to thank the previous Head of School, Professor Ian Hall, for his outstanding leadership over the past eight years.
We wish Jenny the best of luck in her new role and look forward to the exciting changes ahead for the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences.
