Historian becomes Fellow of the British Academy

Emeritus Professor of Economic History recognised for outstanding work in her field
Professor Pat Hudson is among the record number of 29 female academics welcomed to the British Academy Fellowship this year – the highest proportion of women ever selected at 56% of the 2022 list
Her distinguished research expertise on the industrial revolution covers the processes and causes of industrialisation, the impact of colonialism and imperialism on the metropole, the distribution of income and wealth since the 18th century, regional disparities and historical methodology.
Each year, the British Academy elects to its Fellowship up to 52 outstanding UK-based scholars who have achieved distinction in any branch of the humanities and social sciences.
The new Fellows join a community of over 1,600 leading minds making up the UK’s national academy for the humanities and social sciences. Current Fellows include archaeologist Professor Alasdair Whittle (Cardiff University Emeritus Professor), classicist Professor Dame Mary Beard, historian Professor Rana Mitter and philosopher Professor Baroness Onora O’Neill.
