Working with Translation: Theory and Practice
10 March 2022
Our free FutureLearn course, Working with Translation: Theory and Practice is available for enrolment and is open to all. The next run of the course will start on the 14 March 2022.
Translation is one of the most fundamental of human activities, allowing us to interact with one another within and across cultures.
Drawing on the research and expertise from the School of Modern Languages and the University of Namibia, this course will help you discover a wealth of practical tips and knowledge about the nature of translation in an increasingly multilingual world.
“The course was well-structured, engaging and completely met my expectations. I especially enjoyed the practical elements. Once, we were asked to do a phonetic translation from the first lines of the Epic of Gilgamesh; then there were two intralingual translations, as we call them, from a seventeenth - century English poem and from a parking fine!”
“It was really helpful to practice translation among other professionals and gain valuable feedback. The educators were very responsive throughout the course and they provided bibliographies at the end of each week so we could broaden our knowledge outside of the course.” Adam Kosa, Working with Translation student, 2019.
This course was created by Dr Cristina Marinetti, Dr Dorota Goluch and Prof. Loredana Polezzi from the School of Modern Languages and the Cardiff Learning and Teaching Academy.
