Applications now open for our Summer School in Brain Disorders Research 2022
16 February 2022
The annual Summer School in Brain Disorder Research will be in its twelfth year in 2022.
Hailed as “inspiring” and an “eye-opening opportunity” by past delegates, the school is an annual course run by the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics (MRC CNGG) and funded by the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH).
The four-day event will run from Monday 4 July 2022 to Thursday 7 July 2022. It will be held both in-person at the Hadyn Ellis Building, and online in a hybrid format.
Professor George Kirov, who coordinates the course, explained:
"The school boasts talks from some of the most respected researchers in their respective fields of psychiatry and neuroscience, including Professor Sir Mike Owen, Professor James Walters and Professor Jeremy Hall.
"We're looking forward to welcoming even more people to the school this year because of its online and offline form.
"So, it really is a fantastic opportunity and is not to be missed."
Am I eligible to attend?
The course is open to:
- clinical trainees (Foundation/Core/Specialty Training)
- non-clinical scientists (MSc, PhD, Post Doc)
It's a great opportunity for those with an interest in moving into the field of neuropsychiatric genomics and genetics or those seeking an introduction to brain disorders research.
Please note: applications will not be accepted for those who have previously attended. While the course content is often refreshed it remains an introduction to brain disorder research.
Join us to learn and discuss brain disorders research

- Genetics and epigenetics
- High-throughput sequencing demonstrations
- Manipulation of stem cells
- Phenotypic assessment
- Ethics in genetic research
There are also workshops offering information and advice on scientific careers and academic fellowships.
