21 January 2022
On Tuesday 18th January, Community Gateway relaunched the Schools’ Advisory Panel (SAP) which was held at Grange Pavilion.
Staff from local primary and secondary schools and colleges were invited to the event, with representation from Grangetown Primary, Ninian Park Primary, St Paul’s Primary, Fitzalan High and Cardiff and Vale College in attendance.
There were several presentations from Cardiff University staff highlighting the engagement projects run by academic Schools including Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Modern Foreign Languages. Prof. Helena Gaunt, Principal of Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and colleague Kevin Price (Head of Music Performance) spoke about their community engagement plans which included plans for the recently acquired 99-year lease of the Old Library in the City Centre. The Brilliant Club also joined virtually to speak about their ‘Parent Power’ collaboration with Cardiff University’s Widening Participation team to support and empower parents in the community by providing skills development in community organising and advice and guidance on accessing higher education to support their children’s future.
Following the presentations, the rest of the session was an open discussion allowing for staff and teachers to make connections with the projects that would be of interest to each school. A tour of the Pavilion was provided for those attendees allowing them to see the spaces that are available for hire.
The next meeting Schools’ Advisory Panel will be held on Tuesday 10th May at Grange Pavilion.
