Something for everyone with the Year of the Tiger: Chinese New Year 2022
10 January 2022
Plans for Chinese New Year with Cardiff Confucius Institute are well underway. This year, we have planned something for everyone, from local companies to public libraries and little ones to university students.
On 1 February 2022 we celebrate the Year of the Tiger. The characteristics of this particular animal are said to be growth, development, creation and planning. So with these qualities in mind, we will be putting on a range of private and public events for everyone to get their teeth into. These include special one-off activities for local businesses, entertainment Chinese-style in local libraries, celebrations for Cardiff University students, and fun and educational resources for schools. It’s going to be grrrreat!
Public library events for the community
We will be at Canton library on Saturday 5 February, and warmly invite you to join us for some or all of the following:
- Language Taster
- Chinese Calligraphy
- Paper-cutting and Lantern Making
- Traditional Dressing-up
- Taichi Performance
- Traditional Musical Instrument Performance
- Tea Tasting
- Lion Dance
At present the event will be in person, but please note this is subject to change based on Welsh Government regulations.
Online activities for schoolchildren
Both primary and secondary school children will also have the opportunity to enjoy the lunar new year with our tutors, via live interactive online and recorded sessions. Activities will include practical arts and crafts, traditional story-telling, learning about the Chinese zodiac and finding out what you can and can’t do at New Year with customs and taboos.
These online sessions are open to all schools across Wales. We will be running them all day on 1 February, and schools will also have the chance to use the videos during the rest of the week.
