Key paediatric palliative care course returns as blended learning programme for 2022
2 December 2021
Our Masters level short course Problem Solving in Paediatric Palliative care was first run in 2019 and is a collaboration with Ty Hafan Children’s Hospice. The pandemic meant we had to postpone the 2020 course, so we were thrilled to be able to run this course online this year. Now, we’re looking forward to offering this as a blended learning course once again.
Having been forced to postpone the 2020 course, we and the programme team were eager to be able to offer this important course in 2021. To do so, we needed to adapt the programme from a previously blended delivery to an entirely online course. This required careful thought and planning to ensure the delegates’ experience was just as positive and beneficial as on the blended course.
Delegates on the blended learning course had reported they felt a benefit to the support systems and community this course offered. They highlighted the importance of sharing experiences and practices of highly emotive cases as a group. We were grateful that due to the hard work and experience of our tutors, this was not lost during the fully online version of the course.
With both version of the course we ensured we recorded presentations so that delegates could rewatch if they felt necessary and those who had to missed a session were not disadvantaged. We will continue this practice for 2022.
Feedback from delegates on the online course (both formal and anecdotal) was extremely positive, with one attendee commenting:
To assess the practical impact of the course, we evaluated the delegates four months after the course had finished. Some of the important highlights included:
- 100% of delegates would recommend this course
- 100% of those who responded confirmed that they had put into practice what they had learnt on the course
- Delegates reported increased confidence in communication
Following current Government guidance, we are delighted to offer the 2022 course as a blended delivery programme. There will be four face-to-face days, delivered one month apart, with online work, project support and support offered between these days.
Bookings are now open - view the course details here.
