Video: Brexit and the island of Ireland

Professor Brigid Laffan delivered a comprehensive and compelling Annual Lecture for Cardiff University’s Wales Governance Centre.

One hundred years on from the partition of Ireland, Brigid Laffan delivered a lecture which analysed the Irish state’s response to Brexit, with a particular focus on the ‘Europeanisation’ of the border on the island.

She explained that responding to Brexit marked one of the largest undertakings of the Irish state in at least the past fifty years, with resources being poured into a European and global diplomatic strategy to protect Irish interests.
