Broad-based Training Revisited
22 July 2021
CUREMeDE researchers completed a three-year evaluation of the broad-based training (BBT) programme in 2017 (Bullock et al 2018, 2017; Muddiman et al 2019, 2016a, 2016b). This year, Health Education England North West commissioned a follow-up study with the original BBT participants to identify the longer-term career destinations of the participating doctors and whether the benefits of the BBT programme were sustained or in any way disadvantaged their career progression . The findings of this study will inform future training developments.
We have contacted the doctors who participated in the original research and have conducted scoping interviews with some of the volunteers. The responses have exceeded our expectations and the participants have been forthcoming and generous with their time. We have created a survey and are in the process of gathering views from the wider cohort and analysing responses. The report will be available later this year.
